Parenting with a Pound of Prevention and an Ounce of Cure

Ideal for parents and caregivers with children between the ages of 3-16, participants will have an opportunity to identify personalized strategies to address common challenges with child behavior. Dr. Suzanne Kerns will provide some tips and tools for effective and positive discipline, including the most important tool – prevention! Then, participants will be provided a framework for understanding their child’s behavior and have a chance to come up with a personalized plan.
The goal for this session is for participants to walk away with fresh ideas and a game plan for managing the challenges we all encounter when raising children.
About the Presenter
Suzanne Kerns, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor at the University of Washington. She has been a trainer for the Triple P Positive Parenting Program for 14 years and taught a graduate-level course on Effective Parenting for six years. In addition to research and teaching pursuits, she regularly has an opportunity to practice her skills as she is a mother to a preschooler and a ‘tween’.
